Pray for Desire

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ. (Philippians 3:8)

Our judgment tells us that we ought to pray, even if we discover that desire is absent. In such circumstances, we ought to pray for the desire to pray. This desire is God-given and heaven-born.

When desire has been given, we should pray according to its principles. The lack of spiritual desire should grieve us and lead us to mourn its absence. We should earnestly seek for its prize so that our praying can be an expression of the soul’s sincere desire.

Almighty God, I pray that You will increase and inspire my desire to pray. I want my prayers to be powerful and effective. AMEN
